FAIRFIELD - State police across Connecticut, particularly those patrolling interstate highways, were on heightened alert this evening during a massive manhunt in Massachusetts for the suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings.

State police issued two separate alerts for vehicles earlier today, urging people to be on the watch for vehicles with Massachusetts license plates. Those alerts were later canceled, and it remains unclear if the vehicles had any connection to the case.

Law enforcement officials announced this evening that they believe the supsect, 19-year-old Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, escaped a firefight with police on foot. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has since been found, and is in police custody.
