NORWALK - A Fairfield Prep sophomore is training for the 2020 Olympic summer games in Tokyo.

Matthew Torres, 15, is a swimmer who was born without the lower part of his right leg because of a congenital disorder called amniotic band syndrome. Experts say the syndrome can lead to death in some babies.

"It's a disability I've had since I was born, so I don't know any other difference," he says.

Torres says he missed his chance to go to this year’s summer games in Rio after finishing second at time trials in the 400m freestyle.

Beyond his Olympic aspirations, he says he eventually wants to get a doctorate degree in biomedical engineering to work on bionic research and help those who need bionic limbs.
