BRIDGEPORT - Construction is underway on a memorial honoring 12 Bridgeport police officers who were killed in the line of duty.

A bronze statue of an officer reaching down to children will go up in front of the police department.

Patrolman Gerald DiJoseph is one of the members of the department being honored in the memorial.

His daughter says it is important for her family and the community to remember the sacrifices he made.

The project is expected to cost $250,000.  Funds are still being raised to help pay for it.
