GREENWICH - A contest is under way to name the giraffe born last week at the Leo Zoological Conservation Center in Greenwich.

The female giraffe was born Friday. The 4-day-old giraffe is part of the Rothchild giraffe family from East Africa. There are fewer than 670 left in the entire world. The baby's mother is named Petal.

Zoo officials say the baby giraffe is already 120 pounds and more than 6 feet tall. The giraffe could get up to 18 feet tall by the time she is fully grown.

The contest closes on Friday and zoo officials hope to announce the new name early next week.
