BRIDGEPORT - Several cooling centers will be open today to help people looking for relief from the summer heat.

In Bridgeport, officials say the Bridgeport Public Library on Broad Street is a cooling center today. There is another at the Greater Bridgeport Transit station on Water Street.

Besides heading to local libraries, malls and movie theaters also have air-conditioning.

Experts recommend residents drink a lot of water, avoid caffeine and alcohol, stay indoors as much as possible and wear light clothing.

They also warn never to leave children, seniors or pets inside closed vehicles.
