FAIRFIELD - Three, extreme acts of domestic violence against women were reported in southwestern Connecticut in the last three weeks.

Police say a man shot his 49-year-old wife several times in her Bridgeport home Tuesday. Back in December, a 55-year-old man allegedly fatally stabbed his 20-year-old daughter. In New Canaan, on Jan. 6, an attorney brutally attacked his wife with a flashlight and attempted to strangle her, according to officials.

Advocates from the Greenwich Y Domestic Abuse Center say women going through divorce or separations are at high risk for domestic violence. All three women had either filed for divorce or had tried to separate from their husband.

The most important tool for victims is their instincts, say advocates.
