FAIRFIELD - Fairfield police say a New York couple is safe after rescuing them from their boat after it smashed into rocks off Penfield Beach.

The boat's owner, Ken Carlson, told News 12 Connecticut that the electronics on their boat went dead on their maiden voyage on their new boat.

Police say that stretch of reef is known for causing problems for boaters at high tide.

Through the fog, they were able to rescue Carlson and his wife. Carlson and his wife were not hurt during the accident.
