NORWALK - Two people are safe after being rescued from a sinking boat on the Long Island Sound near Norwalk.

Sources say the couple's boat began to take on water after the weather worsened in Norwalk Saturday with heavy winds and high waves.

The Norwalk Police Marine Unit was called to the scene by a nearby boater who noticed the couple was in distress. The husband and wife attempted to bail water from the bottom of their boat with a bucket as the vessel tossed between rocks and waves.

With the aid of the fire department, the police marine unit was able to get the couple to safety and tow their boat back to shore.

News 12 was unable to contact the couple, but has learned they are OK.
