NORWALK - Court documents released today reveal disturbing new details in the case against a registered sex offender who is accused of physically abusing a 2-year-old in Norwalk.

Pedro Salinas, 31, is charged with assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Police say Salinas met the child's mother online and convinced her to move from California to his home in Norwalk with her two young children in May.

The affidavit released today says Salinas began abusing the girl in June, hitting her and violently shaking her. It says the child was brought to Yale New Haven Hospital in late June where doctors reported she had bleeding in the brain, multiple bruises, and was left blind in one eye with limited vision in the other.

Police say the child's mother brought her to the hospital later that month when she began having seizures.

Doctors also say the child couldn't walk or sit up without maximum assistance.

The affidavit shows the girl's mother also told police that Salinas would punish her other child, a 5-year-old boy, by putting him in time out for several hours or even the whole day.

She says Salinas would force him to hold weights over his head and wouldn't let her give her son food.
