WILTON - Emergency crews responded to a house fire in Wilton Saturday morning.

The fire broke out in a home on Range Road at around 9 a.m. Crews from New Canaan, Georgetown, Westport and Norwalk provided the Wilton Fire Department with mutual aid.

Firefighters closed off a section of Range and Old Belden Hill roads for hours as they worked to put out the flames. They say the cold weather, in addition to the fire hydrants being far away from the house, hampered their efforts somewhat.

A builder working on the house told News 12 that it has been vacant for about a year. No injuries were reported.

One neighbor says the house previously caught fire a couple of years ago.

Officials say the fire began in the basement, but its cause is unknown.
