STAMFORD - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are warning of an early flu season.

Doctors at Stamford Hospital say the season is at its earliest since 2003 and are warning that the current strain could make people sicker than in past years. Hospital officials say they've treated five patients in the last two and a half weeks.
Physicians also say that nearly a dozen states have either widespread or regional cases of the flu, but that Connecticut does not appear to be at risk.
The state Department of Public Health says last year's flu season did not peak until February, which was the latest in nearly 25 years.
