HARTFORD - The state Supreme Court has sided with Republicans in a dispute of the design of the November ballot.

The high court ruled that GOP candidates should get the top line on the ballot.

The top line always goes to whatever party received the most votes in the previous gubernatorial election.

Justices ruled that state law favored Republican candidates because Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy received fewer votes than Republican Tom Foley in 2010. Malloy was only able to win with the votes he received from the Working Families Party line on the ballot.
