CT politicians tour towns hit hardest by Irene

STRATFORD - With disaster relief on the minds of many in Congress today, two Connecticut lawmakers toured some of the areas hit hardest by Tropical Storm Irene along the state's shoreline.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) brought the Army Corps of Engineers with them to survey the damage. The group made six stops between Bridgeport and Stonington today.

The officials say they will be discussing what can be done to help restore roads, bridges and beaches, some of which were badly damaged by Irene.

Following the tour, Sen. Blumenthal headed to Washington for an evening vote on FEMA funding.  FEMA estimates that it has enough money to last until Thursday or Friday unless an amended measure to provide disaster relief funds passes in the Senate tonight.
