STAMFORD - The U.S. Postal Service now says the mail processing center in Stamford and another in Wallingford will remain open.

Post Office officials say they are consolidating 140 mail processing centers within the next year and those two had been on the chopping block.

They say a second closing phase will begin in February 2014, and it is not clear whether the two Connecticut locations will be affected at that time.
