STAMFORD - Mom-and-pop shops across southwestern Connecticut took part yesterday in the second annual "Small Business Saturday."
The national event was hosted a day after Black Friday as a way for residents to support their local economy on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.
The concept was first introduced last year by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the CEO of American Express.
Local shoppers and business owners say it's a great way to boost the community.
"I know how hard it is for the small business owners, so I think it's important that we all support our small business owners whenever we can," says Rebecca Glynn, of Stamford.
American Express offered its customers a $25 credit for purchases made today with a registered credit card at select small businesses.
