DANBURY - The Dalai Lama spoke today at Western Connecticut State University in his first of two speeches to be given on the campus.

While his English was sometimes hard to follow, his message of compassion, tolerance, education, forgiveness and courtesy was easily understandable.

School officials say that it took a year-and-a-half of planning to get the event, and was sponsored by the Buddhist Center for Universal Peace of Redding.

The Dalai Lama's second speech will take place tomorrow at the O'Niel Center, and just as his first, is sold out.
