DARIEN - The Darien Public Works Department employee who was accused of running a parking scam at the train station has been fired.

Town officials say Robert Mattera was fired last Friday after an investigation was concluded.

Police say Mattera was in charge of checking that cars at the train station had the proper parking voucher and ticketing those that did not. Police say commuters would leave cash on their windshield instead of buying town-approved vouchers.

Mattera was accused of taking the money left behind by commuters.
