Darien police probe copper theft from construction site

DARIEN - Police are investigating a copper theft from the construction site of a Mini Cooper dealership on Post Road.

According to site supervisor Carl Battinelli, more than $50,000 worth of damages were left behind when thieves stole all of the copper from four large air conditioning units on the building's roof. Police aren't ruling out the possibility of an inside job, but added they need to talk to some persons of interest first.

Battinelli called the damage "extensive," but said he hopes to have all of the construction completed by their deadline in October.
