DARIEN - Darien police are urging residents to keep an eye out for a black bear that made its way into a residential backyard.

According to police, the black bear walked into the backyard of a home on Partridge Lane near Sedgewick Avenue at around 8 p.m. Thursday. They say the young bear took off with a bird feeder, climbed a nearby tree and then left the area.

Environmental officials say that bear sightings will become more common as their population increases. They ask homeowners to remove attractants such as bird feeders to avoid interactions between humans and bears.

State officials say they rarely relocate bears from woodsy, suburban areas because they are not known to attack people or pets.
