Darien residents call for sidewalks on Hoyt Street

DARIEN - Residents in a Darien neighborhood say they feel unsafe walking down a local road that has no sidewalks.

Neighbors say Hoyt Street is a dangerous place to walk because it is a narrow street without sidewalks for pedestrians.

Town officials however, say it is not as simple as just laying down sidewalks. They say not only is there not enough space on the road for sidewalks, but also that it's a state-owned road, so it would be up to the state to make it happen.

First Selectman David Campbell says if sidewalks can't be installed, he would like to see better striping, more lighting and blinking signage to compensate.
