BRIDGEPORT - A unique Bridgeport distillery opened its doors with local leaders in attendance Sunday.

Asylum Distillery, located on Asylum Street, plans to manufacture and sell corn whiskey, vodka and gin.

The distillery is owned by a retired chemical engineer who says he always dreamed of creating distinct, unique alcoholic beverages.

His concoctions will be available to purchase on site every Saturday, as well as at a small selection of local stores.

Officials say the distillery is the first of its kind in Fairfield County in nearly 100 years.
