NORWALK - Connecticut's Department of Motor Vehicles commissioner is taking immediate action today to stop drivers from being wrongfully ticketed or arrested.

DMV Commissioner Andres Ayala on Thursday announced that police will no longer receive lists of unregistered cars until a backlog is cleared.

Some drivers have had their car registrations suspended for not having insurance even though they actually had it. The problem mainly affected people who switched insurance policies over the past few months.

Officials say it started with a backlog in the DMV's new computer system, which has been plagued with issues. They hope to have the backlog cleared by Monday.

The commissioner also says that any fines or fees, including towing costs, will be refunded to car owners wrongfully ticketed.
