BRIDGEPORT - Doctors are hopeful that a 6-year-old Bridgeport girl who was nearly killed by a hit-and-run driver on Memorial Day will make a full recovery.

Diamond Battle was struck while crossing the street by an SUV back in May.

At the time, doctors said they weren't sure she was going to make it.

While her body is now mostly healed, doctors say Diamond is still suffering the effects of traumatic brain injury and has a long road of intensive therapy ahead.

Her mother says she still urgently needs help with Diamond's medical bills. The Waltersville Elementary School is currently accepting donations for the Diamond Battle Recovery Fund.
