FAIRFIELD - Doctors in southwestern Connecticut say they've seen a rise in people who have slipped and fallen on ice following the recent winter weather.

Dr. Sanjeev Rao of the Fairfield Urgent Care Center says it's especially important for the elderly to get checked out if they fall. Dr. Rao says the need for urgent care is necessary because it's possible that a person could be bleeding internally from a fall, even if they show no external injuries.

Dr. Rao also advises people to wear proper shoes and adds that an extra layer of clothing can offer some padding in the event of a fall.
