BRIDGEPORT - As southwestern Connecticut gets hammered with snow, emergency room doctors braced for a busy weekend.
With the snow comes dangerous roads and plenty of sliding. But St. Vincent's emergency department chair Dr. Morton Salomon says it's not just cars that are slipping.
"We'll see a lot of ankle injuries from people slipping on the ice," Salomon says.
Salomon tells people to wear proper snow gear, like boots with good treads to avoid falling and winter clothes to prevent frostbite. Doctors say not to over-exert when shoveling or snow blowing.
"We'll have a bunch of patients who have heart attacks and that's because there are a bunch of people shoveling snow who should not be shoveling snow," Salomon says.
More importantly, he adds that patients with heart disease are urged to sit inside during the storm.
