BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport residents spoke publicly for the first time Thursday about an alleged dog kidnapping ring.

They say six small dogs recently have gone missing in their neighborhood, and that one was returned after the owner paid a $1,500 ransom.

Some of the residents are afraid to contact police for fear their dogs will be killed. 

Bridgeport police told News 12 Connecticut that at this point they know very little about the claims. 

Police say residents should report if somebody calls and demands money for the return of a dog. 

A veterinarian in the area is urging dog-owners to buy the latest generation of pet GPS units that can quickly track a lost dog.
