EASTON - An Easton family brought home a life-saving friend today.

With the help of donations, the Sgandurras were able to afford a medical assistance dog for their son, Aidan, who has Type 1 diabetes. The pooch, named Trooper, can smell when the 2-year-old's sugar levels are too high or too low.

Trooper's trainer says the dog, now 4 months old, has been trained to detect unhealthy sugar levels since he was 7 weeks old.

Aidan's mother has been raising money to help the family cover the dog's costs, which run about $20,000.
