DOT looking at trees after fatal accident on the Merritt

The state Department of Transportation says it will have crews out every day looking for dead or decaying trees after a 74-year-old driver was killed

STAMFORD - The state Department of Transportation says it will have crews out every day looking for dead or decaying trees after a 74-year-old driver was killed by a falling tree yesterday. Norman Gamache was killed during a heavy rainstorm that caused a tree to crash onto his vehicle. Police say the 24- and 84-year-old passengers escaped with minor injuries.

Four years ago, a couple was killed in Westport when a tree fell on its car. At that time, the governor called for a review of the state's tree safety policy.
