WILTON - Fire officials say a Wilton home and road were set ablaze Sunday afternoon when gusts of wind knocked a tree into power lines.
Authorities say the wind blew the tree onto the lines, causing the power pole to crash to the ground at 422 Ridgefield Road. According to officials, nearly 13,000 volts of power struck the road, setting the asphalt and a nearby home on fire.
"My understanding is CL&P has to replace the pole for one thing," Wilton Fire Chief Paul Milositz says. "The second thing is the Department of Transportation has to come out and probably resurface part of the road."
