STAMFORD - A Darien teen survived being hit by a train at a crossing in Stamford on Monday.

Drew Choos, 19, says he was listening to music as he was crossing the Metro-North tracks at Riverbend Drive South near Hope Street. There is no gate stopping cars from passing over the tracks, and Choos said he stepped on the gas when he heard the train's horn.

He only suffered seat belt bruising after the collision.

A Metro-North spokeswoman says the lights and bells were working the time of the accident. She also says the state Department of Transportation is responsible for installing gates at crossings, and that the process to add one is now underway.
