Driver accused in fatal hit-and-run appears in court

NEW HAVEN - The driver accused in a hit-and-run that killed a Milford teenager went before a judge in New Haven today.

According to police, Anthony Criscio, 51, struck 16-year-old Christian Ngongi Friday night while he was walking with a friend in East Haven. They say Criscio initially drove away from the scene, but then came back and appeared to be intoxicated.

Ngongi's family and friends say they are having a difficult time coping. Grief counselors were on hand at Foran High School today, where Ngongi would have started his senior year.

Criscio faces a series of charges, including manslaughter and driving under the influence.
