STAMFORD - People across southwestern Connecticut lined up Thursday morning to be the first ones to buy the much-anticipated iPhone G3.Amir Laforest, of Stamford, took up his post outside the Apple Store at the Stamford Town Center at 4:30 a.m. just to get his hands on the new cell phone. ?Why not? It's the new gadget,? Laforest says. ?You have to be on top of your game.? Laforest was one of more than 100 people who lined up outside the store, waiting to buy the hottest product on the cell phone market.Melanie Austin, of Southport, was also hoping to get the new iPhone, but she was one of the last people in the long line.?I work upstairs at the F.Y.E., and I thought if I got down here early, I could get in line to get the iPhone,? Austin says. ?Apparently, everybody had the same exact idea that I did.?Besides Apple stores, the new iPhone can also be purchased at any AT&T dealership. However, with this version of the iPhone, customers are not required to have AT&T as their wireless service provider. The new iPhone G3 goes for as little as $200 if a customer agrees to sign a two-year contract with AT&T. But those who are willing to shell out more can get the phone with no strings attached.
