NEW HAVEN - (AP) - The U.S. Marshals Service says a manbelieved to be responsible for rapes and other attacks on 17 womensince 1997 and dubbed the East Coast Rapist has been arrested inConnecticut. U.S. Marshal Joe Faughnan in New Haven says the manwas detained Friday afternoon. The man's name hasn't been released. Faughnan said Friday hedidn't have any further details. Authorities recently started posting sketches of the suspect onelectronic billboards in states where attacks occurred includingConnecticut, Virginia, Maryland and Rhode Island. Police set up a website about the case at eastcoastrapist.com.Detective John Kelly in Fairfax County, Va., says the websitegenerated 44,000 hits in 12 hours after it was launched late lastmonth.
