EAST HAVEN - An East Haven 911 operator who also acts as a fire department chaplain recalled the stress of his role when a plane crashed last week, killing four people.

Stephen Johnson says his 911 call center lit up right after the plane crashed. Once he dispatched crews to the scene, he was asked to go to the site to perform his other job as fire department chaplain.

Johnson says his primary concern once on site was the emotional stability of the firefighters. For Johnson, a chaplain's biggest challenge in such a chaotic environment is reassuring his co-workers they handled the situation properly.

Johnson added that having to give a sermon this past Sunday was very difficult after spending days helping colleagues and families cope with the tragedy.
