EASTON - A local seaman is gearing up for a trip of a lifetime as he plans to row a boat across the Atlantic Ocean alone.

John Bauby, a commercial pro diver who specializes in search and recovery, says he has played and worked on the water for about 25 years. The 40-year-old Easton resident is planning to row 10-12 hours each day in a 24-foot, 2,500-pound rowboat.

Bauby plans to leave shore from North Carolina next spring and says he would be the first American to accomplish the journey.

Bauby is also working to get a website launched so people can track him by GPS and keep up-to-date with his adventure.
