Elderly Bridgeport woman struck by car dies

BRIDGEPORT - Officials say the elderly Bridgeport woman struck by a car on Monday has died from her injuries.

Police say 74-year old Cristina DeJara was hit while crossing the intersection of Fairfield and Hancock avenues.

They say the driver, 30-year-old Michael Maddox, of Newtown, may have been using a cell phone at the time of the accident.

Police say they have not charged Maddox and he is cooperating with their investigation.
