HARTFORD - Former Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim has been released from a Hartford halfway house where he had lived for part of the year, after serving nearly seven years behind bars.

Ganim was sentenced to prison in 2003 for taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in expensive gifts, cash and home improvements in exchange for city contracts.

The 50-year-old Democrat says thoughts about his future in politics are no longer a main priority.
