BRIDGEPORT - Former Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim was released from a federal prison Thursday and will service the rest of his term for corruption at a Hartford halfway house.

The five-term mayor was convicted in 2003 on several counts of taking bribes in exchange for city contracts.

Ganim's original nine-year sentence was reduced for good behavior and his completion of a substance-abuse program.

He'll spend the next six months at Watkinson House before he's eligible to go home.
