NORWALK - A judge on Friday resentenced a convicted killer to life without parole for ordering the slayings of a Bridgeport mother and her 8-year-old son in 1999.

Russell Peeler Jr. is the second of Connecticut's 11 former death row inmates to be resentenced. The 44-year-old originally received a single death sentence, but a judge has now issued three life sentences, plus 105 years, without the possibility of parole.

Peeler was found guilty of ordering the murders of 8-year-old BJ Brown, who was set to testify against him in the murder of a rival drug dealer, and Brown's mother, Karen Clark.

The judge had to take him off death row following the state Supreme Court's ruling last month that the death penalty is unconstitutional.

Despite Peeler having to spend the rest of his life in prison, the public defender representing Peeler, Mark Rademacher, says his client is going to keep fighting because Peeler says he didn't order the murders of BJ Brown and his mother.

Rademacher also believes another attorney may challenge Peeler's conviction at a later date.
