Ex-Norwalk teacher starts prison term for having sex with student

NORWALK - A former Brien McMahon High School teacher has started his prison sentence after being convicted of having sex with a student.

John Tate, 54, was sentenced to one year in prison and will serve 20 years probation.

Tate was arrested in April after an anonymous tip alerted police that he was having a relationship with a 17-year-old.

Tate will also have to register as a sex offender.
