NEW HAVEN - Two high school friends who recently reunited through Facebook say the reunion saved both their lives.

Sean Norton had a rare syndrome that caused kidney failure. Norton says he was on dialysis for two years before he reunited with Annette Chionilos.

Doctors say after Chionilos was approved as a kidney donor for Norton and underwent surgery, they found a cancerous cyst in Chionilos' kidney.

They say that without the surgery, the cancer would have progressed unnoticed and could have cost Chionilos her life.

Norton says he had to undergo a second surgery to remove some tissue around where the cyst was just to be safe. One of their other doctors says for both patients, the surgeries were successful.
