A Fairfield community where many neighbors are in need has been stepping up to help the dozens of families in one school who were left

FAIRFIELD - A Fairfield community where many neighbors are in need has been stepping up to help the dozens of families in one school who were left homeless by Hurricane Sandy.

The principal at Roger Sherman Elementary on Fern Street says 42 families in the school have been forced from their homes.

Donna Scott is one of the victims with kids and says her house was flooded by four feet of water.

The school's principal says they are doing everything they can to help, from creating a community board offering up things like beds and use of a washer and dryer to a free shopping event where those in need took whatever they wanted from three rooms full of donations.

The PTA at Sherman School is working on what it can do next to help the families in need celebrate the holidays.
