FAIRFIELD - The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County says it is in desperate need of donations to feed the hungry in southwestern Connecticut.

Executive Director Kate Lombardo says the food bank is distributing about 20,000 - 30,000 more pounds of food than it is receiving in donations. Lombardo says the situation is the worst she's seen in her 10 years working at the food bank.

Willie Johnson, the manager of the food bank warehouse, says the agency needs kid-friendly food donations, such as jelly, tuna and macaroni and cheese since children will be eating more meals at home during the summer.
