FAIRFIELD - It's almost 55 years to the day since Hurricane Carol pummeled the Eastern Seaboard, causing tremendous damage.
Lillian Wood, who lived in the Lake Hills area of Fairfield, says she was evacuated from her home during Hurricane Carol back in 1954. She says the only things she took with her were her two sons and her portable sewing machine.
At the Fairfield Museum and History Center, photographs show the devastation Carol caused, rivers where there were once roads and sandbags stationed for safety.
Wood says much like she did back in 1954, she has decided to leave her home for the weekend. She says she's being picked up by family.
