NORWALK - More than 1,200 people participated in Fairfield's 14th Annual Warren Street St. Patrick's Day Classic run for charity Sunday.
The event, which is sponsored by the Athletic Club, supports four local charities. Organizers say Sunday's turnout was the largest since the run's inception.
Among the runners were about 100 students from Holland Hill School in Fairfield who were running to honor their friend, James McQuade. The students say they were excited to participate and help raise money for McQuade in his battle against leukemia.
Though the run benefits charities like the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club of Southport and Bridgeport's Cardinal Shehan Center, one portion of the run is known as the 'Leukemia Memory Mile' and is dedicated to helping those in need.
