FAIRFIELD - Local students rejoiced today as their long-awaited last day of school finally arrived.

Many school districts across the state were forced to extend their school calendars due to closures after Hurricane Sandy and the February blizzard.

In Fairfield, the superintendent's office says this year is the latest classes have let out in at least 35 years.

School was originally scheduled to conclude on June 13. As for summer school, classes will not begin until July 8.
