FAIRFIELD - Fairfield state Sen. John McKinney says he plans to run for governor in 2014.
He has served eight terms in the Senate and has been Connecticut's Senate minority leader since 2007
McKinney said in a statement, "I'm running for governor because I care about Connecticut's history and its future. I want my children and the next generation to be just as proud to call Connecticut their home."

McKinney is the son of former 4th District Rep. Stewart McKinney.
The Republican state senator says his plan includes bringing more jobs to the state's population centers, like Bridgeport.
The State Elections Enforcement Commission says McKinney joins three other Republicans who have officially announced their runs for governor. Greenwich businessman and 2010 nominee Tom Foley has said that he plans to run, as well.
