FAIRFIELD - Fairfield police are advising homeowners to keep an eye out for scam artist chimney sweeps.

Authorities say they?ve seen the scam perpetuated numerous times in recent years in an area con-artists call the Gold Coast. About 75 percent of a chimney contractor?s work is done between now and the end of November.

?You always have time to make the right decision,? says Jim Jaffe, of Connecticut Chimney & Vent. ?If you're being pushed to make an immediate decision then probably someone is being dishonest with you.?

Homeowners should be wary of anyone trying to solicit chimney work over the phone or in person. Police advise residents to ask to see a Connecticut home improvement registry certificate if they feel they?re being conned.
