FAIRFIELD - A Fairfield University student has died after a car accident the day before he was supposed to graduate.

Police say Massachusetts native Deandre Lawton, 21, crashed his car into a tree near campus on North Benson Road early Saturday morning.

Lawton was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he later died.

Lawton was supposed to graduate yesterday. Classmates held a moment of silence in his honor during the ceremony.

The university says grief counseling will be available for any student who needs it.
