FAIRFIELD - Fairfield used a strong pitching performance to win its opening game in the Little League World Series 3-1 yesterday.

Nearly 100 people gathered at the Pequot Library in Southport to watch the team play against Washington in Williamsport, Pa.

Jack Quinn hit a two-run double in the fifth to put Fairfield ahead and Nick Nardone pitched 5 2/3 innings to claim the victory.

Fans will be returning to the library to cheer on Fairfield in their next game tomorrow night.
